Mission Accomplished!

Whitman UMC is proud to have achieved the status of a 100% mission sharing church. Thanks to each and ever member for the giving that made this goal realized.

Child Care

There will be child care available for nursery age children every Sunday. Marybeth Kelcourse is our new child care attendant. Our church is excited to offer this service to parents of young children so they can have a carefree worship time.

Share in the Rural Mission to St. James Island

I can't believe how fast the year has passed. There is so much snow on the ground and the thermometer seems to be stuck at temperatures below zero.

It is time for the team to start pulling out the sleeping bags and pack up the tools to head for South Carolina and St. James Island . Most everyone knows about our mission work that has be en going on for many years. It is very important for us to reach out to those less fortunate. This year we will be joining the team from Greenfield, MA. Paul Moss, Russ Kirby and Jeff Ferguson arc planning on making the trip. Jim and Marc still trying to work it out. The departure time will be the first week in March. Two weeks earlier than in the past.

Every year this congregation has gone the extra mile and helped us to raise the funds needed to make this mission successful.

Our work there is to help people. of all races and ages, to live a better life knowing that someone cares about them. We have gone into homes of people who, physically or financially, cannot do the work themselves . We cannot do this work with out your support, whether through prayer or (he purchasing of mission shares.

Again thank your for all your past support , Peace , Claudia Cummings

Thrift Shop

Plans are underway for an on-going (year-round) thrift shop in the lower level\ stage area of the building. We are in the need of a couple of things as we begin the task of setting it up.

Our large item wish list includes: shelving units (freestanding), bookcases and cabinets and display cases.

About 60% of the books will be donated to the "book box'. Books of interest and pNossible collector value, in excellent  condition, recent donations and current titles will be kept for the sale.

Any items donated to the church specifically for the sale (including books)will be offered for a period of time before being dispersed t=into other community programs or areas of need. will be offered for a period of time before being dispersed into other community programs or areas of need.

We are also looking for a name for or shoppe.  Name suggestions, offers to help, wish list items and thrift shop donations may be given to an one on the thrift shop team: Sue Anderson, Carol Sweeny, Sandra Bouldry, Sue Diamante, DeeDee Thomas and Pat Horte.

Whitman Food Pantry

Total donations received by the Whitman Food Pantry from the Untied Methodist Church during the year 2008 are $2,495.00 This total represents the private donations from our members as well as the yearly donation of $300.00 from the church.

This is a very generous gift to the food pantry by the untied Methodists, and has been a great boost to the pantry during this very busy season.

Your response has been overwhelming and I am most grateful.
